hIwote Getaneh
(pronounced Hee-wuh-tay Gay-ta-neh)
I’m an audio producer curious about stories that help us better understand ourselves and one another.
I started an indie podcast from my NYC studio apartment seven years ago and have gone on to develop and produce some of my (and maybe your) favorite podcasts during my time at Magnificent Noise. Take a look at the shows below :)

This is Dating
I could happily talk about love, dating, and people dynamics for the rest of my life, which is why I loved making This is Dating. Eavesdrop on four modern daters as they trade the swiping, small talk, and the fumbled first kiss for a curated virtual date with a team of fairy godmothers behind the scenes. This is Dating has been featured in the New York Times, NPR, and listed as one of Time Magazine’s best podcasts of 2022.
WHERE SHOULD WE BEGIN
It’s an honor to be able to say that I helped produce what has been one of my (and many of my friends’) favorite podcasts! In Where Should We Begin, you listen in as Esther Perel, an iconic therapist, helps couples through the beautiful, but often complex terrain of being in a partnership.
How’s Work
Kinda like Where Should We Begin, but for your workplace dynamics. This show holds space for colleagues to process the invisible tensions that often make our work lives harder than we’d like for it to be.
Together Apart
Making this show with host Priya Parker and the team at Magnificent Noise, during the pandemic was both healing and hope-inducing. Together Apart is a testament to our ability to creatively come together despite physical and invisible barriers. Tune in to the show and explore the art of meaningful connections in unconventional times."
Far Flung
My two absolute favorite things to do are travel and talk to people about what’s on their mind, which is why I really enjoyed producing Far Flung with Saleem Reshamwala, a travel show that explores creative ideas from around the world. Explore Chicago with the artists that are re-defining place-based art. Traverse through Barcelona from the perspective of immigrant street-vendors who are building a brand of resistance. Dance to secret Somali mixtapes that hold a cultural heritage.
Make Me Care About
Before I was a producer, I was an analyst at a policy research institution. My masters in Public Policy came in handy while making this show in collaboration with The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Make Me Care About explores the issue areas that the foundation invests in. You can listen to the show here.
Depth & candor
I taught myself how to produce, host and edit a podcast through the Depth & Candor podcast. I created the show in 2016 when I was in deep need of inspiring Black voices that could show me examples of a more vibrant life. I cringe when I listen to this show now, but I also honor that we all have to start somewhere. You can listen to the show here.
